Red Flag Warning Issued For Parts Of Boulder County

BOULDER COUNTY, CO — The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for some regions in Boulder County and Denver's metro area.

The warning is issued when there are critical fire weather conditions.

"A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior," the National Weather Service alert read.

The warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday for the following areas:

Above 6,000 feet:

• Jefferson County
• West Douglas County
• Boulder County
• Larimer County

Below 9,000 feet:

• Gilpin County
• Clear Creek County
• Northeast Park County

There will be very dry air in northern Colorado Thursday, with humidity between 5 and 10 percent in the Front Range foothills, weather officials said. Winds will increase during the day, and the weather will remain dry and windy with little cooling.

Southwest winds are expected to gust between 15 and 25 mph, but could reach up to 40 mph.

"Any fire that starts will have the potential to spread rapidly," the weather alert reads. "Extreme fire behavior will be possible."
