According to a press release from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Ramirez fell more than 60 feet while climbing with friends on a rock formation near the Gregory Canyon Amphitheater. Investigators later determined that he appeared to be climbing without a helmet or other safety gear.
Ramirez was transported to Boulder Community Foothills Hospital after a technical rescue, where he underwent "two life-saving surgeries addressing the severe head trauma he had suffered," according to his GoFundMe page. Ramirez is still "[battling] the swelling of his brain and a multitude of other severe injuries to his body."
