Students Rescued From First Flatiron In Tennis Shoes And T-Shirts

Two CU students attempted the technical ascent without any climbing gear.

BOULDER, CO -- Two CU students–clad in t-shirts, shorts, and tennis shoes–who attempted to ascend the technical First Flatiron had got stuck and had to end their adventure with assistance from Rocky Mountain Rescue. Both students were uninjured, according to a press release from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.

The students got in trouble partway up the climb, just to the north of the Direct East Face route. A climber in the area heard them yelling for help and called 911 at about 6 p.m. Friday. Rocky Mountain Rescue representatives rappelled down to the stuck climbers and assisted them to the top of the crag and off the climb.

"While #CUBoulder students, at least they aren't graduates..." wrote longtime local Daily Camera reporter Charlie Brennan on Twitter.
