BOULDER, CO -- Winds will blow cold air into the Boulder area today and Saturday. The National Weather Service is forecasting winds that will increase throughout the day. Current estimates call for sustained speeds of 28 to 33 mph Friday afternoon, with gusts as high as 55 mph. This is a slightly more severe forecast that had previously been given for today.
The winds will continue into the weekend. Gusts Saturday will hit near 30 mph, bringing with them a slight chance for rain or snow that night.
Drivers should use caution when on the road, especially in open areas such as Highway 93 to the south of Boulder or Highway 36 to the north, and be alert to strong gusts that may cause them to lose control of their vehicles. In general, those in the area should be careful of flying objects and secure outdoor furniture and trash cans.
