Here are the top three stories in Denver today:

  1. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) federal officials held their first in-person briefing of a planned three meetings in order to inform the public of a new proposed Conservation and Landscape Health rule. The new rule proposes to define and expand the BLM's authority over the 250 million acres of federal land that is under its oversight by giving the BLM new resources to balance the use of these lands for outdoor recreation and conservation alongside current use for ranchers and oil and gas development. The proposed rule is supported by around 80 local elected officials throughout Colorado as well as multiple conservation groups and outdoor recreation groups. (Colorado Newsline)
  2. Colorado joined 20 other states on Thursday when acting governor Lt. Gov. Dianne Primavera signed a new law that would require medical providers to get patient consent before allowing medical students to perform pelvic exams on unconscious patients. However, unlike other states with similar laws, Colorado's new law requires that the patient be told the name of the medical student and that the medical student must meet with the patient before the procedure. Supporters of the law say that it will ensure that patients are given the opportunity to give full informed consent while those who oppose the law say that it will limit or inhibit the educational opportunities of medical students. 3. In observance of Memorial Day on Monday, most city and county offices here in and around Denver will be closed that day, including public libraries, the mayor's office, and the Denver Motor Vehicle Title and Registration Office. Emergency services, such as the fire and police departments, will remain open and working. Meanwhile, the Denver International Airport is anticipating more than 400,000 travelers to go through the airport this weekend, and airport officials would like to remind travelers to give themself extra time due if flying due to the holiday crowds.
