Denver Police ID Man Accused In Lodo Security Guard Shooting

Harrison Hall, 31, was arrested in Louisiana and faces charges in the Sep. 28th death of Denver security guard Luke Kroener.

DENVER, CO – Denver police identified a man facing first-degree murder charges in the September shooting death of a civilian security guard in Denver's LoDo neighborhood.

Harrison Hall, 31, was arrested in Louisiana on Dec. 12 on an unrelated warrant. He is now being held in Louisiana, police said. Hall is accused of shooting Lucardio "Luke" Kroener, 28, at close range after two men were suspected of shooting another person a block away in downtown Denver.

Tipsters to the Metro-Denver Crime Stoppers and Denver police led to the arrest of Hall, almost two-and-a-half months after Kroener's death, police said.

Kroener was fatally shot on Friday, Sep. 28, 2018, at around 2 a.m. near 14th and Market Streets. Police said Kroener, working as a private security guard, responded to an earlier shooting a few minutes prior at 15th and Market Streets. As police arrived at the earlier shooting incident, Kroener and Hall allegedly had "an altercation" and Hall allegedly shot Kroener.

Police are not yet releasing photos of Hall, because they re still needed for lineup purposes, they said. The arrest affidavit for Hall was sealed by a Denver District Court judge.

Slain guard Kroener's family was present last week when he was posthumously awarded the"Bill Daniels Neighborhood Hero Award" Dec. 13 at the Denver Police Crime Laboratory by Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen.

Police in a statement revealed that Kroener had assisted the police in two shooting incidents during September at personal risk to himself. It was during the second incident he was shot at close range and died.

The first and earlier incident was on Sunday, Sep. 16, at about 2:30 a.m., police said. Kroener had just completed his shift working as a security guard in the 1500 block of Market Street when he responded to sounds of shots fired and a fight in the area. Kroener pointed out two men to officers whom he believed were possibly related to the shooting. He also detained one man until police could respond, police said.

The Daniels Fund presented Kroener's family with a $1,000 check. The check will go towards a college fund for Luke's 3-year-old daughter, Emma, a statement said.

"Luke Kroener twice took action in very dangerous situations with the goal of keeping people safe and helping Denver Police arrest shooting suspects," said Linda Childears, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund. "We recognize his courage today with this award and celebrate his legacy."

"Luke is a true hero whose desire to help others was clearly demonstrated through his actions, and it's heartbreaking for his loved ones and our community that his life was cut short," said Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen in a statement. "Today, we honor Luke's courage and sacrifice, which serve as an inspiration to us all to find ways to get involved and make a difference in our community."

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about this homicide is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867, police said.
