How Much Do You Know About Denver?
Every town has its traditions. Check out these fun facts about what makes Denver so special.

Denver is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Denver has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.
A few things to know:
- The iconic Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre is not only a breathtaking concert venue, but it's also a geological wonder. The red sandstone formations were created over 300 million years ago, and visitors can hike or bike the trails, or attend a yoga class at the amphitheater.
- Denver is known as the Mile High City because it sits exactly one mile above sea level. Visitors can check out the 13th step of the Colorado State Capitol Building, which marks the exact spot of one mile above sea level.
- The Molly Brown House Museum was the home of "unsinkable" Molly Brown, a Titanic survivor and philanthropist. The museum offers guided tours of her home, which is filled with Victorian-era furnishings and personal items.
- The Denver Art Museum is not only an impressive display of modern and contemporary art, but the building itself is an architectural wonder. The museum's Hamilton Building, designed by architect Daniel Libeskind, features an unusual, geometric shape and an angular titanium façade that reflects the Rocky Mountains.
- Denver is home to the world's first Chipotle Mexican Grill, which opened in 1993 near the University of Denver campus. Today, the fast-casual chain has over 2,900 locations worldwide.
- The Denver Botanic Gardens covers 24 acres and features a wide variety of plants from all over the world. The gardens also host outdoor concerts and events, as well as a holiday lights display during the winter.
- The Denver Mint, one of four U.S. Mint facilities, produces billions of coins each year. Visitors can take a guided tour of the facility and see the coin-making process in action.
- Denver is a hub for outdoor enthusiasts, with over 196 miles of on-street bike lanes and more than 250 parks. In the winter, visitors can hit the slopes at one of the city's nearby ski resorts, such as Breckenridge or Vail.
- The Denver International Airport (DIA) is the largest airport in the United States by total land area, covering about 53 square miles. The airport is also home to several unique art installations, including a 32-foot-tall blue mustang statue with glowing red eyes.
- The Colorado State Capitol Building is gilded with a 24-karat gold dome, which was added in 1908. Visitors can take a free tour of the Capitol and see the dome up close.
- Denver is home to one of the largest collections of Indigenous arts from North America in the world, housed at the Denver Art Museum. The museum's American Indian art collection includes over 18,000 objects from more than 250 Indigenous nations.
- The 16th Street Mall is a pedestrian mall in the heart of downtown Denver, featuring brewpubs, over 42 outdoor cafés and a complex with 12 movie theaters and more than two dozen restaurants and shops. The mall is also home to a free shuttle bus that runs up and down the street, making it easy to explore.
