Heroin Resulting In Death: 2 Denver Women Charged By Feds

Two women appeared in federal court for the heroin-related death of a third woman in Denver, federal prosecutors said.

DENVER, CO – Two women charged with distributing heroin resulting in the death of a third woman appeared in U. S. District Court in Denver, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Ariel Nicole Walker, 30, pled guilty before Judge R. Brooke Jackson and Kayla Pagano, 24, was advised of charges in a case involving the death of an unnamed woman in May of 2018.

According to Walker's plea agreement, on May 31, 2018, Walker went to Civic Center Park in Denver looking for someone who could sell her heroin, the U.S. Attorney's office said. On that same day, an unidentified woman, described in court papers as "E.N." drove to Civic Center Park looking for someone who could sell her heroin as well.

At Civic Center Park, E.N. approached Walker and another person, asking if they could sell her any heroin. Walker asked if E.N. had a car, because that would enable them to meet Walker’s dealer in Westminster, Colorado. E.N. had a jeep, and the three of them agreed to take it to meet Walker’s dealer at 88th and Garrison in Westminster on the border of Arvada.

At a Circle K gas station in Westminster, Walker met with Kayla Pagano from whom she allegedly purchased heroin, the USAO's office said. Walker sold some of that heroin to E.N., who injected it. After using the heroin, E.N. passed out and ultimately died in the backseat. The transaction was captured on the surveillance video at the gas station.

According to court documents, Walker and the third person drove E.N.'s car to visit the Denver jail and allegedly left E.N. unconscious in the back seat. According to court records, the unnamed other person left E.N.'s jeep in a private parking lot near the jail.

Police later found E.N.'s dead body dumped in an alley in Denver, the Walker plea agreement said. Autopsy results showed E.N. died of a heroin overdose.

Denver police investigators and the FBI collaborated on the case, the USAO's office said.

Walker was arrested on Sept. 17, 2018 and Pagano was arrested on Dec. 11, 2018 according to court records.
