High Wind Warning Issued For Front Range Foothills

Wind could gust up to 80 mph on Monday and Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for some Colorado regions, including the Front Range foothills. The warning will be in effect from 6 p.m. Monday until 9 a.m. Tuesday.

West wind is expected to gust between 30 and 40 mph, but some gusts could reach up to 80 mph, weather officials said.

"Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines," the weather alert read.

"Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles."

A separate high wind watch was issued for Denver's east metro area — that alert will remain in effect from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday. Winds in the region aren't expected to gust as high as regions closer to the mountains, but could gust up to 60 mph, the National Weather Service said.

"Avoid outdoor burning or any activity that may cause sparks," weather officials said in the alert. The strong winds will likely fuel rapid fire growth."
