A Denver couple says the Stanley Cup was mistakenly delivered to their home, and it was meant for Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog.

DENVER, CO — It's happened to all of us at one point or another. You get a notification of a package at your front door, only to realize the parcel has a neighbor's name.

But for one Denver couple, it's a memory they'll never forget.

Dmitri Rudenko and his husband, Kit Karbler, told KUSA-TV they were at their Hilltop home this week when someone pulled into their driveway.

"The person opens the trunk and I saw the case and I recognized it, because I watched the final [Stanley Cup] games," Rudenko said. "Jokingly said, 'Is that the Stanley Cup?' And he says, 'Yes!'"

Karbler told KDVR-TV the cup's keeper knocked on the wrong door — they're address is a digit different from Gabriel Landeskog, the captain of the Colorado Avalanche.

I couldn’t believe it! All my thoughts were wide open because how could that be? Because I knew that we had Avalanche players that lived in the neighborhood but I didn’t know how close and specific and to get the wrong address would be easy for them,” Karbler said.

In a Nextdoor post, Karbler posted a photo of the cup lying in blue velvet in its case.

"They got the wrong address for the Stanley Cip and were delivering it to my house instead of Landeskog's," he said. "Got to see it and touch it in my driveway!"

Karbler said he lifted the cup and was surprised at its heft — the cup weighs about 35 pounds.

Philip Pritchard, the Hockey Hall of Fame’s cup keeper, told KDVR they couldn't see the house numbers, so they decided to knock on the door.

"Sure enough, I knock, ‘Hi who are you guys?’” Pritchard told the station.

The Colorado Avalanche on Sunday defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Final. The mishap comes after Avalanche winger Nicholas Aube-Kubel lost his balance while carrying the cup over to his teammates and fell, denting the trophy.
