Pedestrian Identified In LoDo Hit-And-Run

An 82-year-old man was identified as the pedestrian allegedly struck and killed by Jerek Fabjancic, 39, of Golden.

DENVER, CO – An 82-year-old man struck and killed in a crosswalk in Denver's LoDo neighborhood was identified Tuesday by the Office of the Denver Medical Examiner.

James Steele Jr. was struck and killed around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5, police said. Steele died from "multiple blunt force injuries," the medical examiner's office said in a statement.

Police said Jerek Fabjancic, 39, of Golden was behind the wheel of a red Toyota truck driving southbound on Blake Street when he ran a red light at 15th Street, causing a three-vehicle accident and striking Steele, who was "legally in the north crosswalk of the intersection."

Police said Fabjancic fled the scene without stopping. He and his vehicle were located in Lakewood later that night and arrested the following morning in Golden.

Fabjancic was released on a $20,000 bond. His next court date is April 26, according to online court records.
