Red Flag Warning Issued For Metro Denver, Boulder

"Any fire that starts will have the potential to spread rapidly," the National Weather Service said in an alert.

DENVER, CO — The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning — which means high fire danger — for Denver's metro area and Boulder.

The warning will be in effect between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Thursday, weather officials said.

"Parts of the foothills and South Park could begin earlier due to strong downslope winds," the weather alert read.

"Conditions will quickly improve late Thursday evening as incoming moisture arrives."

Humidity could reach as low as 12 percent earlier in the day, and winds are expected to gust between 15 and 25 mph, but could gust up to 40 mph, weather officials said.

"Any fire that develops will have the potential to spread rapidly," the alert read.

"Avoid burning or any outdoor activity that may produce a spark and start a wildfire."
