Here are the top three stories in Denver today:

  1. A Denver restaurant uses a shipping container to grow fresh greens for its vegetable-based menu. Vital Roots is an all-employee-owned restaurant where the greens they use to create their dishes come right from a shipping container behind the building. The restaurant uses a vertical hydroponic system that takes only a fraction of the water a traditional farm would require, giving them 2.5 acres worth of farmland in a small shipping container box. This system has allowed Vital Roots to be more carbon-neutral while also giving customers fresher food. (9News.com KUSA)
  2. The Denver Police Department is investigating a shooting involving Thornton police officers. At 3:45 a.m., Thornton police were called to a report of a burglary when officers saw the vehicle matching the description from the report and pursued it. The chase entered into Denver and ended when the vehicle crashed into a barrier wall at West 48th Avenue and Eliot. The two men fled from the car, and the passenger was arrested without any incident. The driver fired shots at TPD, which prompted a TPD officer to fire back and hit the suspect who sustained non-life-threatening injuries; no police were harmed in the shooting. (9News.com KUSA)
  3. Neighborhood residents plea for a Pedestrian Bridge to be fixed near Delgany Street near Ball Arena. The bridge has been closed for around two years after the rotting wood collapsed under someone's foot. The city has done extensive research to find out who owns the bridge but has not been able to determine who that owner is. A sign has been put up on the bridge by someone with the words “Fix Me, Fix Me, Fix Me Denver." The city inspector is expected to come out and look at the bridge to determine the repairs it will need; if it is decided the bridge needs to be fixed, money will have to be allocated by the city, through grants or another government funding program.
