DENVER, CO — The Colorado Rockies can allow even more fans into Coors Field for opening day, the team announced Tuesday.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment approved a new variance that will allow fans in under a 42.6 percent capacity cap, or 21,363 fans.

The team was initially approved for a 25 percent cap — 12,500 fans — in late February.

"We couldn't be happier to be inviting Rockies fans back into Coors Field," said Greg Feasel, the Rockies' Chief Operating Officer.

"It took a lot of hard work from a lot of people, and we thank the State of Colorado, the City and County of Denver, and their health officials, along with the MLB for partnering with us to ensure that our thorough and detailed plan complies with all health and safety measures."

"If inventory allows, ticket on-sale dates for the general public will be determined and announced at a later date," the Rockies said in a statement.
