Here are the top three stories today in Denver:

  1. Police are searching for a hit-and-run suspect in a Broomfield neighborhood. Police have reported that a man involved in a crash with another vehicle has fled the scene at Zuni and 128th just east of Willow Park. The suspect is wearing tan pants and a white tank top, and police say he is white or Hispanic, in his 20s, and has curly black hair. Police have searched for the man in the area using K-9 units but have not been able to locate him. Police are urging anyone that sees an individual matching that description to call 911 immediately. (FOX 31 Denver)
  2. Susana Cordova was voted as the sole finalist for the Colorado Commissioner of Education. This new position will see Cordova working in collaboration with state board members, teachers, students, and other state department leaders. The board has not taken their final vote yet, but members have already expressed their belief in her ability to perform in this new role. Cordova was the deputy superintendent for the Dallas Independent School System, and she has 31 years of experience with the Denver Public School System where she helped the district negotiate during teacher strikes and navigated the bomb cyclone snowstorm. (Colorado Public Radio)
  3. The Farmers Market at Union Station is returning! The Market takes place every Saturday, starting this Saturday, Jun. 3 at 9:00 a.m. You can enjoy a great selection of fresh produce and also enjoy wonderful live music, watch chefs cook, and eat at amazing restaurants at Union Station. The lineup of available products includes a multitude of baked goods, honey, beverages, candy and confections, dairy products, fruits and vegetables, meats, and even bath products. (303 Magazine)

From my notebook:

  • Aladdin - The Musical, is set to start showing at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts Buell Theatre in June. Don't miss your chance to see this amazing Broadway performance as the tour makes its stop in Denver. (Denver Center for the Performing Arts via Facebook)
  • The Denver Police Department would like to remember and honor an officer who died on May 30, 1921. Arthur J. Pinkerton was patrolling when he found a fallen arc light on 36th and Marion Streets. When backup arrived they found him unconscious on the road, and he died at the hospital. It is presumed the officer was attempting to move the light out of pedestrians' way when he was electrocuted. (Denver Police Department via Facebook)
  • Three and a half miles of streets in downtown Denver will be open on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for recreation. From Broadway to Welton, people will be able to bike, walk, skate, segway, and more during this fun event. Be sure to also visit A Taste of Colorado at Civic Center Park or stop by some of the awesome local businesses in downtown while you are out. (Downtown Denver Partnership via Facebook)
