Wanna Grow Marijuana? Follow The Rules, Says Denver PD
The Denver Police Department and the Office of Marijuana Policy want to encourage residents to grow pot responsibly.
DENVER, CO – Are you thinking about a marijuana "home grow" in Denver? Make sure to stay within the rules, or you could be arrested and convicted, the Denver Police said Thursday.
DPD and the Office of Marijuana Policy released a reminder that even though licensed and taxed marijuana is legal to consume in Colorado, growing it yourself can get you in trouble if you aren't in compliance with the law.
Growing limited amounts of marijuana has been legal since 2012 and local municipalities have the legal authority to implement their own restrictions, a statement from the agencies said.

Here are the laws for growing pot at home in Denver:
- People between the age of 18-21 years old may only grow marijuana for medical purposes and must possess a valid registry card
- People over 21 years old may grow marijuana for recreational purposes without a license
- Plant counts are limited to no more than six plants per person with a maximum of 12 plants per dwelling unit, with no more than 50% flowering at any time
- Marijuana must ALWAYS be grown and stored in an enclosed and locked structure
- Growing marijuana outdoors in Denver is unlawful in all circumstances
- It is illegal for individuals to sell marijuana
