Winter Storm Warning Issued For West Metro Denver, Boulder

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for west metro Denver, Boulder and other Front Range areas.

DENVER, CO — The National Weather Service has issued an alert for west metro Denver, Boulder and other areas in Colorado. A winter storm warning will be in effect from 4 p.m. Friday until noon on Saturday.

Between 4 and 12 inches of snow is possible in some areas, and wind could gust up to 35 mph, weather officials said.

"Rain will change to snow after 4 PM this afternoon and become heavy at times tonight," the alert read. "Lighter snow will continue Saturday morning."

The advisory was issued for Denver, Boulder, Aurora, Arvada, Lakewood, Littleton, Brighton, Parker and other cities. A full list of cities and towns can be found here.

"Heavy snow will accumulate on tree branches and powerlines, possibly causing them to break and lead to power outages," the alert read. "Travel may become very difficult due to heavy snowfall on roadways."

The low temperatures are not expected to last after this weekend — in fact, Coloradans can get ready for a hotter than normal summer, with a higher than normal drought intensity and greater than normal cooling demands, according to AccuWeather's 2022 summer forecast.
