Woman Gives Birth Mid-Air On Flight From Denver To Orlando

A Frontier Airlines flight attendant assisted a woman in giving birth miles up in the sky, the airline said.

DENVER, CO — A woman gave birth high in the sky on a flight from Denver to Orlando — with the help of a flight attendant, according to Frontier Airlines.

The flight took off from Denver International Airport and was headed to Orlando International Airport, when the woman went into unexpected labor, and flight attendant Diana Giraldo sprung into action.

Giraldo helped the woman from her seat to the lavatory, then assisted her in giving birth to a newborn daughter, the airline said in a Facebook post.

Giraldo's actions were "exemplary" and her demeanor "calm" throughout the ordeal, pilot Chris Nye said.

Dispatchers directed the plane to Pensacola International Airport, where paramedics were ready to assist the woman, according to Nye, who transferred flying duties to the first officer as he coordinated the diversion. The plane then completed its flight to Orlando.

"The whole crew really did a great job," Nye said. "I was happy to see everyone working together to successfully deliver a newborn on an aircraft!"

The woman gave her daughter the middle name "Sky" to commemorate the unusual circumstances of her birth, according to the airline.

"This baby should fly free on Frontier always," one Facebook user commented on Frontier's post.
