City turns fall leaves into riverfront improvements, taxpayer savings (thebusinesstimes.com) — Grand Junction is turning thousands of cubic yards of collected fall leaves into cost-saving compost to restore Watson Island along the Colorado River. The city reports more than $50,000 in avoided costs while improving soil health, native vegetation, and the popular riverfront space for disc golfers and walkers.

2. Unidentified suspect allegedly destroys Mesa County Library books (kjct8.com) — Police in Grand Junction are trying to identify an older woman suspected of ripping up several transgender-themed books in the Mesa County Central Library and throwing them away. The damage, estimated at just under $100, has closed the case unless new witnesses or tips emerge, and Crimestoppers is asking residents to report any information.
   

3. Another Incident at North Ave Walmart Injures Officer (junctionnow.com) — Grand Junction police arrested a 32-year-old man Tuesday morning after a reported shoplifting incident at the North Avenue Walmart turned violent, leaving one officer with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect, taken to the Mesa County Detention Facility, faces multiple charges including second-degree assault, theft, trespassing, obstruction, resisting arrest, and drug-related offenses.
   

4. WesternSlopeNow talks with Rep. Jeff Hurd about The Pet and Livestock Protection Act (westernslopenow.com) — From Grand Junction, Rep. Jeff Hurd explains why he co-sponsored the Pet and Livestock Protection Act to delist gray wolves, saying it would let Colorado wildlife managers better protect ranchers’ herds and keep food prices down. He argues the species has recovered, frames the bill as vital to western Colorado’s agricultural economy, and is cautiously optimistic about Senate passage.
