2 Generations Of Longtime Lakewood Artists On Display

Contemporary work by Lakewood artists with Charles, Collin and Devon Parson will be displayed at Lakewood Cultural and Civic centers.

LAKEWOOD, CO – For the Parsons, it's a family affair. Members of one of Lakewood's most visible resident artist families will be displaying works by two generations in “Three Views” an exhibit at the Lakewood Cultural and Civic centers. The exhibition is the first event in the city's 50th anniversary exhibition series.

Works by artists Charles Parson, Collin Parson and Devon Parson, who have made Lakewood their home since 1987, will be displayed in an exhibition at Lakewood Cultural and Civic centers.

Beginning with an opening reception Friday, Jan. 18, Works will be displayed at the Lakewood Cultural Center, 470 S. Allison Parkway, and Civic Center, 480 S. Allison Parkway, through March 28.

The exhibition "highlights the similarities and differences of two generations of creativity," a press release said. The different ways the artists interpret living in the western United States in the 21st century, the exhibition shows the ways the different artists portray "views of light and shadow, massive scale and delicateness, expansive space and airy atmosphere."

The family's history in Lakewood, and the U.S. arts scene is discussed in the Cultural Center's Bravo magazine, where Collin Parson said growing up he was known as "the kid who lived in the art house." Parson's mother, Evalyn Kermiet Parson is a member of the nationally recognized folk arts “Ritchie Singing Family of the Cumberlands.” The Kermiet family also ran a square dance store and operated the Lookout Mountain Lighted Lantern Folk & Square Dance camp for 30 years.
