1. 22-year-old driver in fatal school bus crash in Lakewood reached 91 mph, affidavit states (denverpost.com) — A detailed arrest affidavit describes how a speeding SUV allegedly hit a school bus in Lakewood, injuring 16 people and later leading to an 18-year-old’s death. Lakewood police say the driver, whose license was suspended, reportedly reached 91 mph on Kipling Street and now faces numerous charges, with possible vehicular homicide still under review. 
2. Amazon delivery driver accused of attacking Lakewood dental office employees, injuring 1 (9news.com) — Lakewood police say an Amazon delivery driver was arrested after an alleged random attack at Emerald Dental on West Alameda Parkway that left one person seriously injured. Officers arrived to find bystanders restraining the suspect, a Denver man now held in Jefferson County jail on multiple assault, sexual contact, and disorderly conduct charges.
3. Colo. firefighters to start shifts later after study shows early hours cut sleep (firerescue1.com) — Firefighters serving Lakewood with West Metro Fire Rescue will start their 48‑hour shifts at 9 a.m. instead of 7 a.m. beginning in January, after a Yale-backed study showed early start times cut into already limited sleep. The department hopes better rest will improve alertness, safety, and long‑term health, and will re-track sleep data to see if the change works.

Colorado sees first influenza-associated pediatric death of 2025-2026 season; doctor at Denver Health gives recommendation (cbsnews.com) — A Lakewood preschool, Colorado Kids Academy, briefly closed after about 70% of its students fell ill amid a sharp statewide surge in flu cases. Colorado health officials have confirmed the season’s first pediatric flu death and are urging families to vaccinate young children, keep sick kids home, and step up hygiene as an early, possibly severe flu season unfolds.
