Here are the top four stories in Lakewood today:

  1. After closure due to methamphetamine contamination, the Bemis Public Library reopened last week. Of the closure, city spokesperson Kelli Narde commented, "I think it's easy to point the finger at a person being homeless as the culprit, but there's no way that we can prove that whoever did this was a homeless person. And I think it's naive to think that every homeless person smokes meth and it's naive to think that only homeless people smoke meth." Since it is impossible to monitor what occurs in bathroom stalls, further prevention must come from public policy. (Littleton Independent)
  2. AVi at Olde Town, an affordable housing complex, opened in Jefferson County this month. With various grants and funding sources, AVi at Olde Town has 30 units dedicated to young people out of foster care, 10 units for unhoused veterans, and the remaining units are for those making between 30%-70% of the median income. (Arvada Press)
  3. Four Colorado universities offer scholarships to undocumented students. The Community College of Denver, Metro State, University of Colorado Denver and Colorado State University all offer up to a total $39,000 per year based on GPA, financial need and community involvement of these students. (Fox 31)
  4. This week, Denver is to see more snow. As high winds continue, snow is likely to reach the metropolitan area by Wednesday afternoon. (Fox 31)
