Here are the top stories in Lakewood today:

  1. With the run-off mayoral vote just around the corner, candidate Kelly Brough hopes to be the city's first female mayor and is relying on woman voters to make it happen. Brough said that while running for mayor, she has been required to overcome issues of perceived leadership qualities and had to "convince people, actually, leadership can look very different." Read more at Axios Denver.
  2. This past Sunday, the Colorado Legislature approved TABOR refund for residents that make less than six figures. The refund will be $661 for single citizens and $1,322 for those who file taxes jointly. The goal of the refund is to support the economy, giving those making less than $100,000 the opportunity to pay off bills and support local businesses. Visit Pagosa Daily Post to learn more.
  3. The Colorado Bureau of Investigations is currently searching for 13-year-old Jordan Tafoya, who was last seen in South Federal on April 24. They are now asking for help finding the missing Indigenous girl. She was last seen in blue jeans and a dark colored sweatshirt. She is approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and 185 pounds. Learn more at KRDO.
  4. Since the pandemic, the Denver area has seen a shortage of summer lifeguards. As the city and towns start to open pools for the summer, they are continuing to recruit young people for the season. Find out more at Englewood Herald.
