Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:

  1. Tenants at Cedar Run Apartments spent the weekend protesting poor living conditions. The protest was organized by tenants in a WhatsApp group chat created after their homes lost heating and hot water in January, which is just one of many unthinkable health and safety violations at the complex. (The Denver Post)
  2. From 3:00 AM until 11:00 PM today, northbound Speer will be closed to traffic between Lawrence Street and Market Street as The Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure performs construction work for the upcoming Cherry Creek bridge. Traffic will be redirected through the nearby neighborhood. (Fox 31)
  3. If this new bill is passed, overdose prevention centers will come to Denver and other Colorado cities. In an act of harm reduction, these prevention centers will will host clean needles, trained professionals, and hopefully save the lives of those struggling with substance abuse. (Fox 31)
  4. Kwame Spearman, Denver mayoral candidate, falsely claimed that "52% or our unhoused population would prefer to live in a tent than other housing options.” The figure actually stands that, as of a 2021 survey, 83% of unhoused people rank houses as their top choice of shelter. (9 News)
