Here are the top stories in Lakewood today:

1. The Department of Motor Vehicles is experiencing a statewide power outage that is impacting all services, forcing residents to reschedule DMV appointments. The DMV says, however, that the shortage is not affecting online services. Learn more at KRDO.
2. This weekend, Denver's Cinco de Mayo festival returns to Civic Center Park. The festival occurs between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM on both Saturday and Sunday. It includes a parade, performances, vendors, and more. Visit 9 News for more information.
3. Following the East High School shooting, Denver Public School deans are once again discussing unionization. There are over 120 deans in the district, and they have not been unionized in about 6 years. In addition to pay issues and benefit requests, violence and safety has now become a top priority in the unionization process. Read more via The Denver Gazette.
4. A scam has been occurring regionally in which Health First Colorado and Child Health Plan Plus members are receiving calls about cancelled coverage. The scams ask for money and/or bank information. Denver's Department of Health Care Policy & Financing has sent out an alert warning residents of this scam and saying that sensitive information will never be asked for via phone or text.
