JeffCo Kids Collect, Deliver Food For Fellow Students

"Grub Club" packages of three-days worth of meals were sorted and delivered to homeless or emancipated students in Jefferson County.

LAKEWOOD, CO – A tidal wave of food and non-perishables was sorted, organized and delivered by Jefferson County School District students and families this week at Lakewood's Action Center.

On Saturday, Feb. 9, JeffCo students sorted more than 23,500 food items donated for fellow students to be distributed via the JeffCo "Grub Club." The mega drive began in December and on Saturday, families and teachers dropped off the donations at the the Action Center Warehouse at 8035 W. Colfax in Lakewood over the course of several hours, the agency said.

With more than 2,800 homeless and displaced children in Jefferson County, according to the Colorado Department of Education, the Action Center and other agencies created the Grub Club to package three-day meal supply kits that discreetly fits into a backpack for Jeffco students experiencing homelessness.
