Lakewood Student Scholarship Offered From Colorado Mills Mall

LAKEWOOD, CO – Saying the company wants to honor the shoppers at Simon Malls, the company's non-profit arm, Simon Youth Foundation, announced a call for Lakewood graduating seniors to apply for a $1,500 college scholarship.

The student must live "near Colorado Mills" or in the surrounding communities, the scholarship website says. The deadline is Feb. 20, 2019. So far, Colorado Mills has awarded scholarships to 18 graduating seniors, the company said.

To be eligible, according to the contest, applicants must:

• Be a high school senior attending school and living in a Simon®community;
• Be a legal U.S. resident;
• Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school in Fall 2019;
• Demonstrate academic promise and financial need.

Applicants will be evaluated based on academic promise, financial need, written response, work experience and community/extracurricular involvement.

The scholarship recipients will be selected by a third-party judge, International Scholarship and Tuition Services (ISTS), the foundation said.

Michael Durnil, president and CEO, of Simon Youth Foundation in a statement. “We strongly believe that cost should not prevent students from furthering their education. With the incredible support of our corporate partner, Simon, and its Simon Supports Education initiative, we are humbled to help eliminate this financial burden through SYF’s scholarship programs.”

In 2018, SYF awarded more than $1 million in scholarships to more than 250 graduating seniors. Since 1998, SYF has awarded $17 million in scholarships to nearly 4,800 students, the company said in a press release.
