In response to the half million dollar advertising campaign being conducted by several out-of-town special interest groups, a local man has taken the initiative to fight back with his own brand of down-home flair. Peter Groth, a Lakewood retiree, converted his old-fashion pioneer wagon into a mobile billboard urging his fellow citizens to vote Yes, in favor, of the citizens' initiative (called Question 200) to slow down housing growth in Lakewood. The July 2 ballot issue would slow down the issuance of building permits each year to an amount equal to 1% of the city's housing stock. Mega apartment projects of over 40 units would require review and approval of City Council. The measure seeks to restore control over growth decisions to the people's elected representatives. Lakewood changed its growth management program in 2013 to turn over all growth decisions to a government bureaucrat and removed City Council from the process. Mr. Groth would be happy to visit your neighborhood with his wagon. People can contact Mr. Groth at geochemistry4u@centurylink.net.
