LAKEWOOD, CO – The City of Lakewood received a $30,000 grant to help pay for a new central outdoor fitness facility to be installed in Addenbrooke Park, 600 S. Kipling Pkwy.

The National Fitness Campaign's 2019 Healthy Cities Campaign awarded the grant to the city as part of a program "designed to activate public spaces by connecting trails, well-placed pedestrian infrastructure and community meeting points with a central outdoor fitness facility," according to a city press release.

The city will install an outdoor gym system called The Fitness Court later this year.

“I’m thrilled that Lakewood is leading the charge as the first city in metro Denver to bring this free, digitally engaging, outdoor gym to its residents. The Fitness Court will help adults of all ages and abilities pursue lifelong wellness in a fun and accessible way,” said Peggy Boccard, Lakewood's recreation manager in a statement.

“When we spoke to residents about the future recreation needs in the city during our master plan process, they responded that easy access to fitness was important. As a result, we made it a goal to add new park and recreation facilities and amenities. The Fitness Court addresses this important priority set by our residents,” she said.

Residents can get a "sneak peek" and become a "Fitness Court Ambassador" by going to NationalFitnessCampaign.com, the city said.
