Here are the top four stories in Lakewood today:
- Denver has a 22.46% gap between Black households that make a six-figure income and white families that make a six-figure income. In the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood area, about half of white households earn $100,000 or more, while only about a quarter of Black households do. (Fox 31)
- Lakewood's Federal Center has been purchased for $30 million after nearly a decade of negotiation. The property was bought by Lakewood Land Partners LP. Lakewood spokeswoman Stacie Oulton says, "Because this is a prominent property in Lakewood, the city understands there will be a lot of questions. This process will likely not get underway for a number of months, and the city anticipates that one of the first steps will be the new owners meeting with community members." (The Denver Post)
- Earlier this week, Coloradans rallied in call for more affordable utility bills. The rally occurred on April 12. (Westword)
- Neil Hagerty, 57, has been taken into custody for allegedly cutting a police officer's neck with his badge after removing it from his uniform. Two cops at the scene were injured and hospitalized. They have both been treated and released. (Fox 31)
