Here are the top stories in Lakewood today:

  1. The current rainfall, which is breaking records, provides hope for Colorado's wildfire season. The more hydrated the grass and plants are, the less likely fire is to catch and spread. Visit Axios to find out more.
  2. Despite being a diverse district, Denver Public School's safety plan seems catered to white families. One of the new policies that Black parents don't always agree with is the reinstating of school resource officers, as low-income and children of color are more likely to be affected. Learn more through Westword.
  3. Denver's average gas price is currently $3.35 per gallon. There are places in the area, however, where it can be purchased for under $2.80 per gallon. Aurora's Cotsco and Sam's Club are among the places to procure cheap gas. Discover other locations and more information at Fox 31.
  4. Mayoral candidate Mike Johnston has won endorsements from major left-leaning leaders such as Al Gardner and Julie Gonzales. This signals Johnston might be likely to win progressive votes in the runoff election against Kelly Brough, who would be Denver's first female mayor. The runoff election is scheduled for June 6.
