Thunder Valley Motocross National Gets Green Light

LAKEWOOD, CO — The 16th Annual Toyota Thunder Valley Motocross National is set to be hosted Oct. 3 in Jefferson County.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment worked with organizers to ensure the event is held in accordance with state guidelines amid the coronavirus outbreak. Jefferson County Public Health and the city of Lakewood also reviewed the event’s operating plan, officials said.

The 618,051-square-foot motocross park, at 701 S. Rooney Rd., will reduce its normal attendance to just 7 percent for the Oct. 3 event.

Event staff and race participants are required to complete health questionnaires and undergo infrared temperature checks. Face masks are required, and fan viewing areas will be restricted to comply with social distancing guidelines — only family members can sit together, officials said. Handwashing stations and sanitizer will be available in all areas of the park.

The Toyota Thunder Valley National is round eight of the 2020 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.

"2020 is shaping up to be one of the most competitive pro motocross seasons for both classes in quite some time," organizers posted on the event's website.

"Thunder Valley is guaranteed to provide a few surprises when the gate drops on what is predicted to be a deep field of competitors."

General admission tickets for the event are $55, but were sold out as of Monday. Some VIP tickets were still available.

"With a legacy that dates back to 1972, the Pro Motocross Championship has been the proving ground for the most talented riders from across the globe to showcase their talents on the sport’s biggest stage," organizers said in a news release.

"This is arguably the most physically and mentally demanding discipline in all of motorsports, and fans are consistently rewarded by witnessing these exceptional athletes defy the laws of physics as they soar through the air and navigate the roughest terrain imaginable aboard two wheels at jaw dropping speeds."
