Woman 'Played Dead' After Co-Worker Stabbed Her in Lakewood Home

David Andrew Gladu, 47, kicked the woman as she lay on the floor with a slit throat, then left her home. He was sentenced to 25 years.

GOLDEN, CO – A 47-year-old man was sentenced to prison time for the 2017 attempted murder of his co-worker in her Lakewood home, the Jefferson County District Attorney's office said.

David Andrew Gladu pled guilty Jan. 3, 2019 to first-degree assault and theft in the attack of his co-worker with American Pool Players Association whom he had known for 15 years.

He was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Feb. 11 for the attack, the DA's office said Friday.

The female victim worked from home "organizing billiard tournaments" the district attorney's office said. Prosecutors said Gladu came to the victim's Lakewood home on Oct. 2, 2017 to "drop off documents" but then "completely unprovoked, he cut her neck and began stabbing her," with a kitchen knife he brought from his home, prosecutors said. When the knife broke, he then picked up scissors and continued to stab her.

At Monday's sentencing hearing, the victim told the judge that she believed she saved her life by "playing dead," the DA's office said in a press release. She said she fell to the ground, motionless and that Gladu kicked her two to three times "to see if she would react, and then left."
