2 Extradited, Charged In Avon Home Burglary: Police

Two suspects have been extradited from Georgia and arrested in connection with a home burglary in Avon, according to police.

AVON, CT — Two suspects have been extradited from Georgia and arrested in connection with a home burglary in Avon in May, according to police.

Police responded around 9:45 p.m. on May 7 to a residential burglary that happened on Robkins Road, according to Lt. John Schmalberger.

Schmalberger said police, with the help of the homeowner and additional homeowners in the area, were able to obtain security footage of the suspects trying to break in and then fleeing the area.

“Over the next four months, Avon Police Detectives worked collaboratively with other departments in the state as well as out-of-state agencies to identify five suspects from this attempted burglary as they were connected to South American Theft Group activity in Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, and Ohio,” Schmalberger wrote in a news release. “Additionally, Avon Police Detectives worked closely with the Office of Hartford State’s Attorney to secure five arrest warrants for each of the suspects.”

Two suspects were found in Georgia on Oct. 4, and were taken into custody on the arrest warrants, according to Schmalberger.

Schmalberger said Avon detectives worked with Georgia officials over the next month to arrange extradition back to Connecticut.

Avon police and the Office of the Hartford State’s Attorney traveled to and from Georgia on Nov. 19 and 20 to bring the suspects back to Connecticut, according to Schmalberger.

The suspects, 27-year-old Alexandria Bravo Valencia and 32-year-old Misael De La Colina Palomino were arrested and held in lieu of $500,000 bonds.

Palomino was charged with criminal attempt at first-degree burglary and conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary. Valencia was charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary.
