A Thanksgiving Message from Avon's Superintendent

Avon Superintendent Gary Mala sent the following letter to parents, staff and the Avon community.

Dear Parents, Staff and Concerned Citizens:

I wish to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a happy and healthy Thanksgiving holiday. Personally, I am thankful for the opportunity to serve you, your children and the faculty and staff of the school district. As we contemplate our good fortunes over the next few days, please join me by keeping those who are less fortunate in our thoughts and prayers no matter what form they take. Best wishes to you for a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I am pleased to once again communicate with you and provide you with a brief update regarding some of the most recent activities taking place in the district.

Recently, the Board of Education unanimously passed revisions to Policy #5080 – Tests and Research Papers. The newly revised Board of Education Policy requires that “Tests developed and administered as a part of classroom instruction will be returned to students as soon as reasonable and practicable. Tests shall be returned to students after being reviewed and assessed as to support student learning.”

Last week, the Communications Subcommittee of the Board of Education hosted the second of a series of Public Information Sessions scheduled for this school year. The topic discussed was School Safety and Security Enhancements. The materials presented are available on the district homepage at www.avon.k12.ct.us.

In keeping with the practice of providing you with an alternate method for sharing your thoughts regarding the 2014-2105 Superintendent’s Proposed Budget that was submitted to the Board of Education last week, we are maintaining a special email address. Please feel free to submit your questions and ideas to 20142015budget@avon.k12.ct.us. This address will be checked daily and answers to questions received will be posted on the district website under the Budget tab (Frequently Asked Questions).

In closing, I wish to thank you for your continued support and again wish you the best for a safe, happy and healthy holiday weekend.

I remain very truly yours,

Gary S. Mala
