AVON, CT — The Avon Free Public Library is hosting a special virtual America 250 event next week that will feature a noted historian who has just released a book on the American Revolution.

The library is hosting a moderated conversation with Mark Edward Lender to celebrate the release of "War Without Mercy: Liberty or Death in the American Revolution," part of Avon’s America 250th Commemoration.

It will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 7 to 8 p.m. via Zoom.

"Drawing on vivid contemporary accounts, this is a fascinating exploration of how and why the Revolutionary War descended into a brutal existential struggle," wrote the library in an announcement.

"This engrossing history of the Revolutionary War conclusively shows that those caught up in it believed they had nothing to lose by fighting without regard for the rules of so-called “civilized warfare.”

Lender is professor emeritus and former vice president for academic affairs atKean University in Union, N.J. He holds a doctorate in history from Rutgers University.
