Avon Activates Local Warming Center Protocols

The weather this week is expected to be dangerously frigid, prompting the town to urge folks to use warming centers if necessary.

AVON, CT — A blast of arctic temperatures and breezy winds are expected to continue through most of this week.

As a result, the Avon Senior Center and the Avon Free Public Library will be open during normal business hours and will serve as warming centers through Saturday, Feb. 22.

The locations and hours are: Avon Senior Center; 635 West Avon Road; 860-675-4355; Hours: Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Avon Free Public Library; 281 Country Club Road; 860-673-9712; Hours: Tuesday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If residents are in need of protection from the extreme cold when warming centers are not available, call non-emergency dispatch at 860-409-4200 and the town will make arrangements to provide you with access to a warming facility.
