Avon Announces Warming Centers During Cold Snap

The Town of Avon Friday said it will have warming centers available through early next week due to the extreme cold predicted.

AVON, CT — With Gov. Ned Lamont issuing statewide cold-weather protocols Friday, the Town of Avon has announced it will open designated warming centers in town.

Extreme cold temperatures are forecast starting Saturday, Dec. 21, through early next week.

The Avon Senior Center and the Avon Free Public Library will be open during normal business hours and will serve as warming centers.

The locations and hours are as follows:

• Avon Senior Center, 635 West Avon Road, 860-675-4355

Hours: Monday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday (Christmas Eve) 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

• Avon Free Public Library 281 Country Club Road, 860-673-9712
Hours: Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Tuesday (Christmas Eve) 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

If residents need protection from the extreme cold when warming centers are not available, call the non-emergency dispatch number at 860-409-4200 and the town will make arrangements to provide access to a warming facility.
