But when it’s a matter of life and death, Chester stops cooperating, and Georgia must learn the difference between probability and magic.
She learns to rely on her own powers to increase the odds of a happy ending.
This contemporary middle-grade novel explores serious topics with sensitivity, humor and heart.
“There are scenes in Chester and the Magic 8 Ball I stole directly from my own life, including the time my daughter and I visited the Humane Society in Newington, just to look! Of course, we came home with Lucy, the perfect addition to our family," said Katz.
"Unfortunately, Lucy wasn’t psychic, but other than that, she and Chester share many wonderful characteristics."
Katz also tapped into her many years working as a classroom teacher, curriculum specialist and principal.
She modeled the book’s math teacher, a quirky but inspirational educator, after the very best teachers she’s known.
Katz former is a former teacher (Massachusetts, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Plainville, West Hartford); curriculum specialist (West Hartford); and principal (Farmington and West Hartford).
She is also a member of the Avon Board of Education and writes fiction and poetry for children.
Katz is currently booking author visits for grades 4-6.
Teachers and librarians may contact her through her website: www.lynnkatzauthor.com, or email katz.lynn@gmail.com. Copies of Chester and the Magic 8 Ball are available through her publisher, Black Rose Writing, and all major and indie booksellers including Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
