Avon Bids Adieu To Its Police Chief
The veteran law enforcer was Avon's top cop since July 2022 and was Farmington's police chief for 13 years prior.

AVON, CT — The town's top cop is leaving the department after three years in charge of the Avon Police Department.
The Fourth of July weekend marked former Avon Police Chief Paul Melanson's retirement from the APD, a job the veteran law enforcer held for three years.
Melanson notified the town of his retirement over the spring, with the new fiscal year marking the end of his tenure.

Avon police paid tribute to Melanson, but didn't disclose his future other than to say he will be heading "onto another adventure."
"Thank you for the three years of dedicated service to the Avon community and your family at the Avon PD," wrote the department on Sunday, July 6.

"We appreciate all you have done for us as an organization and all you have done for every cop and civilian employee individually."
Melanson took over Avon's PD in July 2022 after leading the Farmington Police Department for 13 years.
