Avon FD Open House Strives To Expand Department's Ranks
The Avon Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, Nov. 2, will host an open house/recruitment drive at one of its firehouses.

AVON, CT—Locals looking for an informative and enjoyable activity on Saturday might want to check out the Avon Volunteer Fire Department.
That's because the AVFD is hosting an open house/recruitment drive at its 365 Huckleberry Road fire station from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2.
The open house will feature firehouse/truck tours for families, hot dogs, hamburgers, and snacks.

Meanwhile, the AVFD will look to see if anyone in the community is up for volunteering to help out their fellow residents.
The department is looking for healthy adults aged 18 and older to be an entry-level firefighting volunteer.

In addition, those who are 14 and have completed eighth grade can become "fire explorers," which is a training program that prepares teens for when they can become a firefighters at 18.
Candidates must complete an application process and pass a medical exam (all expenses paid by the AVFD).
No prior training or experience is required as that will be provided to qualified candidates, according to the AVFD.
