Cake Gypsy Owner Named Avon Lions Club's 'Citizen Of The Year'
She has supported nonprofits and created an inclusive line of desserts.
AVON, CT — Deanna Damen, owner of bakery Cake Gypsy, has been named 2022's "Citizen of the Year" by the Avon Lions Club, the organization announced.
Damen was recognized at the club's June 1 meeting and awards night, where officials said she was "praised for her continued support of the community."
At her bakery, which has locations in Avon and Granby, Damen recently sold sunflower cupcakes that supported World Central Kitchen's efforts in Ukraine, Lions Club officials said. She has also supported Big Brothers Big Sisters and created lines of gluten free and vegan desserts.

"Deanna has supported not only the Avon Lions Club at events like our blood drives but has also reached out to contribute to other causes throughout the pandemic," said Heidi Zacchera, the chapter's incoming president. "A cupcake might be a small dessert, but it can really bring a smile to folks' faces when times feel upside down."
In a statement, Damen said she respects the work the Lions Club does in the community.
