Avon Warming Centers Now Open Through Friday, Jan. 10: UPDATE

AVON, CT — With Gov. Ned Lamont Monday putting the state on another set of cold-weather protocols through Thursday, Jan. 9, the Town of Avon has announced that warming centers will open.
Extreme cold temperatures with wind chills near zero were forecast through the afternoon on Thursday, Jan. 9.

But Lamont extended statewide protocols to Friday, Jan. 10, with Avon doing likewise on Wednesday.
The Avon Senior Center and the Avon Free Public Library will be open during normal business hours and will serve as warming centers.

The locations and hours are as follows:
• Avon Senior Center; 635 West Avon Road; 860-675-4355; Hours: Tuesday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Avon Free Public Library; 281 Country Club Road; 860-673-9712; Hours: Tuesday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
If residents require protection from the extreme cold when warming centers are not available, call non-emergency dispatch at 860-409-4200 and the town will make arrangements to provide access to a warming facility.
