AVON, CT — Local police Tuesday said they have achieved re-accreditation, ensuring the department's operations function under the highest standards possible.

The Avon Police Department said the department was officially awarded continued "Tier III State Accreditation" last week.

"This distinguished recognition reflects our agency’s commitment to professional excellence," wrote the APD in an announcement.

"It demonstrates that we continue to meet and exceed the highest standards established by the Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POSTC) in support of law enforcement throughout Connecticut.

"Achieving Tier III Accreditation is a reflection of every department member's hard work, dedication, and professionalism. It also represents our ongoing pledge to deliver the best possible services to our community."

The police department specifically credited its records/accreditation manager, John Zemaits, for "everything you do to keep us a top department in Connecticut."
