Avon Slammed By Storm, Traffic Lights Out/Road Closed: Police

Avon was among several hard-hit towns in central Connecticut hammered by savage summer thunderstorms overnight.

AVON, CT — Hard hit Avon was among several towns slammed by severe summer storms overnight, with some traffic lights not working Thursday morning.

The Avon Police Department said lights are down on Route 44 from Climax Road (Whole Foods intersection) west to Route 167 (Shell and Mobil gas stations), as well as West Avon Road from Country Club Road north to Route 44.

"When traffic lights are nonoperational, you must treat them as stop signs," police wrote. "Please be careful going through all intersections."

Meanwhile, the APD said Country Club is closed between Highwood and Brookridge for a tree down on wires and Brookmoor is closed for a tree down on wires.

The Avon Free Public Library is asking folks without power to stop by as its facility at 281 Country Club Road has power and air-conditioning, as well as computers.
