Avon Trail: Take A Hike And Learn
A public hiking trail behind an Avon school has a literary component that currently features a children's book encouraging reuse.
AVON, CT — A local hiking trail at an Avon elementary school offers more than just a chance to commune with nature and enjoy a little exercise.
It offers the gift of literacy and enlightenment.
And, according to Avon officials this week, the newest addition to Blazer's Trail behind Roaring Brook Elementary School, 30 Old Wheeler Lane, Avon, offers a lesson on sustainability.

Throughout the half-mile loop, there are displays where children's books are featured in which families can stop periodically and read a book while getting in some outdoor exercise.
This month, the Blazer's Trail committee has put up "One Little Bag," by Henry Cole.

While this work doesn't have any words, it does deliver an illustrated message of environmental sustainability through the journey of a single plastic bag.
"One Little Bag ... is a wordless picture book with beutiful illustrations that challenges the reader to become mindful about reusing," wrote the Town of Avon.
The trail is open to the public during daylight hours when school is not in session and there are maps available as well.
