Avon To Use Farmington For Emergency Dispatch Services
Avon will close its dispatch center this fall and transition to receiving dispatch services through Farmington's dispatch operation.

AVON, CT — Citing cost savings and improved dispatcher staffing, Avon officials have agreed to sign up with nearby Farmington for a new, regional emergency dispatch operation.
It means that, sometime this fall, when Avon residents call "911," the dispatcher on the other end of the line will be in Farmington, not Avon.

"We expect the transition will occur this fall," wrote the Town of Avon in an announcement.
The town has created a "Frequently Asked Questions" document that outlines details of the arrangement.
Current Avon dispatch services are at the Avon Town Hall campus, but by utilizing Farmington, Avon will have improved dispatcher staffing to go along with budgetary savings (nearly $210,000).
Under the agreement, which has already been approved in Farmington, Avon's current dispatchers would be offered positions with the Town of Farmington.
