Avon Wellness Clinic Owner Sentenced To Prison For Fraud: State
The 64-year-old woman admitted to billing Medicaid for services that were not provided.
AVON/HARTFORD, CT — The owner of an Avon-based counseling/holistic wellness center will spend some time behind bars following her sentencing in Hartford Superior Court earlier this week.
Connecticut Chief State’s Attorney Patrick J. Griffin said Wednesday that Avon resident Soraya Sawicki, 64,was sentenced in Hartford Superior Court Tuesday for defrauding Medicaid by submitting fraudulent claims for services she did not perform.
Sawicki was sentenced to 18 months in prison, execution of that time suspended, with five years of conditional discharge, with the condition being that she cannot serve as a provider in the Medicaid program.

Upon sentencing, the defendant paid full restitution of $27,068.81.
Sawicki pleaded guilty to health insurance fraud, a class B felony.

Griffin said that by being found guilty of a program-related felony, Sawicki is subject to mandatory exclusion as a health care provider to certain federally funded health programs under federal and state laws and regulations.
Medicaid is a government program providing health coverage to low-income, disabled, and elderly individuals.
It is financed by the federal and state governments and administered by the Connecticut Department of Social Services.
Griffin said an investigation by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney determined that between September 2019 and June 2021, Sawicki, a licensed clinical social worker and the owner of Infinity Integrated Counseling and Spa Services in Avon, billed for services that were never provided.
The amount totaled $27,068.81.
The case was investigated and prosecuted by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
