Avon's 911 Dispatch Transition To Farmington Starts This Week
Avon emergency officials have stated the services won't change, and it will be 'seamless.'
AVON, CT — Starting Tuesday, Sept. 30, when Avon residents call "911," the dispatcher on the other end of the line will be in Farmington, not Avon.
Following a public hearing held on July 31, the Avon Town Council unanimously approved an Interlocal agreement with the Town of Farmington for the regionalization of dispatch services, a move expected to save tax dollars.
The Avon Police Department said Monday, Tuesday, Sept. 30, would be the first day of the changeover, with those needing "911" services seeing no difference.

"We want to reassure Avon residents and visitors that this change will not delay or alter emergency or routine services in any way," wrote the APD on Monday.
" In fact, regionalization will enhance the level of service by increasing staffing to ensure your calls are answered promptly."

Police said they're confident the full transition will be "seamless."
All contacts remain the same, police said, and residents can continue to use 860-409-4200 for all routine calls for the Avon Police Department, and 911 for any emergencies.
By utilizing Farmington, Avon will have improved dispatcher staffing to go along with budgetary savings (nearly $210,000), officials said.
Under the agreement, Avon's current dispatchers were offered positions with the Town of Farmington.
