Avon's Emergency Services Day To Showcase Local Heroes

The free family event will take place this weekend at Avon High School and feature police/fire demonstrations, vehicles, and a helicopter.

AVON, CT — Residents who want to see the role the town's emergency responders play in the community can do so safely at a special event this weekend.

The Avon Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) is inviting the community to experience Avon Emergency Services Day on Sunday, Sept. 21, from noon to 4 p.m. at Avon High School, 510 West Avon Road.

This will be a free, family-friendly event highlighting local first responders, their life-saving work, and the equipment they use every day.

Emergency Services Day will feature:

  • A Life Star helicopter landing
  • Automobile extrication demonstration by AVFD firefighters
  • Canine demonstrations
  • Vintage 1960s Cadillac ambulance from American Medical Response
  • Displays by Avon Police, CT National Guard, CT Highway Safety Office ("Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign), and more.
  • Fire trucks and other emergency vehicles will be on display

This free event is a hands-on, educational, and interactive program for families and kids.

Food trucks will be on site, and event T-shirt sales will benefit Tunnel to Towers (direct donations also encouraged).
